Dr. Katherine Bowers, Associate Professor, Department of Central, Eastern, and Northern European Studies
Dr. Bowers‘s “Computational Dostoevsky” project applies digital humanities methods, such as network analysis, topic modeling, and stylometry, to examine Dostoevsky’s major novels as a unified corpus, pursuing computationally-assisted close reading to address longstanding questions about his novelistic practice across his entire mature career. The project’s deep structural analysis also offers a methodologically rigorous counterweight to ideologically driven readings. Alongside the Library Research Commons, DiSA provided support to a successful SSHRC Insight Grant that created a formal connection between the team and Simon Fraser University’s Digital Humanities Innovation Lab as well as supporting the project’s postdoctoral fellow, Dr. Boyer, in some of his TEI work.
