AI-Enhanced Learning Analytics Research

Dr. Fatemeh Salehian Kia, Assistant Professor of Teaching, School of Information

DiSA supported Dr. Salehian Kia’s project exploring the integration of large language model capabilities into My Learning Analytics (MyLA), her platform designed to support students’ self-regulated learning. The project aimed to deploy MyLA on UBC’s AWS infrastructure and incorporate Amazon Bedrock’s Llama 3 model to enable adaptive, AI-supported guidance for students navigating complex learning tasks. DiSA’s Graduate Research Assistant, Neil Aitken, contributed dedicated technical effort across multiple approaches to the deployment challenge. While full infrastructure integration required additional specialized cloud support beyond the project timeline, the collaboration clarified key technical and coordination requirements for enabling AI-enhanced learning analytics projects within institutional infrastructure.
